Architectural Internship | June - November 2014
Castle Towers is a shopping centre located in the western Sydney suburb of Castle Hill in Australia. The redevelopment includes three areas designed by UNStudio. Heritage Square is a public area acting as the centre’s front door. The pavilions within the square house retail, restaurants, and other outdoor amenities. The Lamella facade creates a continuity along the exterior by wrapping the front and rear program. The undulating roof acts as the connector between the shopping centre’s wings and entry points.
The portion of the project I worked on during my internship was the Lamella facade. The scheme shown includes vegetation integration along the kilometer-long facade. Two distinct modules are used to mitigate the slab height differences and regulate lamella orientation. Design responsibilities included physical mock-up modeling, conceptual diagramming, technical feasibility and application studies.
